The 6th Turkish Shipping & Ship Finance Conference 2011

Informa Event in Turkey

The 6th Turkish Shipping & Ship Finance Conference 2011 was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 19 - 20 October 2011.

The slogan was ‘Choosing Your Course in Challenging Shipping & Financial Markets’.

Organizers: Informa Maritime Events and Lloyds List.

The Senior Lawyer, Alexander Chebotarenko, has been spoken on the 6th Turkish Shipping & Ship Finance Conference 2011 about the investment to Ukrainian ports.

The 6th Turkish Shipping & Ship Finance Conference once again brought together leading players from Turkey and specialists from overseas to provide a first class forum to examine and discuss the most important issues affecting Turkish shipping today.

The conference gathered about 80 participants from Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and European Union.

The leading European companies related to shipping made their presentations. Thus, the basic problems related to the ship finance were highlighted. It was said that the shipbuilding sector does not ‘feel good’ because of the lack of demand for new vessels. The credits were substantially reduced by the banks. The major players of the market are concerned about the growing intervention from China. As supported by the government the Chinese shipping industry is increasing day by day, a lot of new vessels have been constructed, and, accordingly, the freight rates are substantially reduced.

The presentation made by Alexander Chebotarenko covered the new Law of Ukraine ‘On Sea Ports’ that was adopted in the first reading. Thus, the foreign investors got some perspectives as for the finance into the port sector of Ukraine.
